Garden Plot Rental


2013 Garden Plots are now Sold out 



Subscriptions are on a first come first serve basis.  We will not hold plots without payment. There are a very limited number of plots so act quickly if you are interested.
  • Basic Plot Rent is $85
  • This includes only the services below.
1.      1 pre-tilled plot 200 sq ft
2.      Plots will be open as soon as I can get the ground ready.  This can theoretically begin as soon as April 15th but in a wet year like last it didn't happen until into the first week of May.  Plots must be cleared of all non-plant materials by Oct. 31st so they can be tilled and a winter cover crop can be planted.   
3.      The plots will be fertilized at about 80 lbs N and 60lbs P/acre (this is should be enough for any crop you decide to grow)
4.     Irrigation (about once a week whenever I irrigate my crops) This alone is probably worth the $85.  In my experience, one of the biggest reasons most people's gardens are not successful is most often because they irrigate too much or because they are not consistent with irrigation with all the vacations etc during the summer.  

1.       The plots will be located at the North end of my field at the SE corner of 11800 South and 4000 West.  You will park in the park strip along 11800 South and enter through the gates I will put at the East and West ends of the white vinyl fence.  Climbing the fence in not allowed any violations will result in a fine of $20 per instance. 
2.       I will be marking off the plots with furrows at my standard 30 inch spacing and this spacing is not to be tampered with in the plots so that water will flow between plots.  
3.       No one is allowed in the field after irrigation until the soil surface is dry.

4.       When/if trellising crops like peas, beans, or cucumbers please be try to minimize shading between plots.      
5.       Weeds must be responsibly managed.  If weeds become a problem (greatly outnumbering plants, going to seed, etc.) on any plot I will have my workers weed the plot and will charge the renter $15/hr.  If farm employees have to spend more than 2 hours in any plot during the year the lessee will forfeit their plot.  
6.       I am not responsible for any crop failure in the plots.  If my regular irrigation is not enough for the crops you choose to plant then you will have to find another method of irrigation between my irrigation intervals. (my irrigation interval should be plenty for any crop)
7.       Absolutely no pets are allowed on the property.  Children must be supervised at all times and no one is allowed outside the plot area into my regular cropping area. 
8.  All sales are final.  No refunds will be provided after receipt of payment.

Please note: Some crops may become problematic for you and your neighboring plot renters.  Please take the following into consideration when planning your plot.  

1.  Sweet corn: Sweet corn pollen can travel hundreds of yards on the wind. For most crops, cross-pollination is not a problem because we do not eat the seed of the plant.  However, that is the part we love in sweet corn.  If you plant a different variety than your neighbor then there is a good possibility that they will cross-pollenate.  This will greatly diminish the quality of your corn.  Also, sweet corn must be planted in fairly large blocks of at least 4 rows to adequately pollenate.  If you want to plant sweet corn I would suggest that you contact me and I will sell you a little of my seed.  If everyone plants the same variety then there won't be problems. 

2. Cucurbits (ie cucumbers, melons, pumpkins, squash): These plants require a large area to grow.  Please be courteous of where you plant these crops so they don't take over your neighbors plot.  


Release and Waiver of Liability
This is a legal document which affects your legal rights!

This Release and Waiver of Liability (The “Release”) executed this 2013 growing season by (The “Renter”) in favor of Petersen Family Farm (The “Owner”) and it’s directors, officers, agents and employees.

The Renter desires to rent from Owner Garden space (The “Garden Space”) to be used by
Renter, his/her guests, invites or other persons while in Renters possession. Renter understands
that use of Garden Space on Owners Property at 11887 South 4000 West Riverton, UT 84096
(The “Property”) may pose inherently dangerous conditions which may, by its nature, cause injury
or harm to Renter, his/her guests, invites, or other persons. The Renter does hereby freely,
voluntarily, and without duress executes this Release under the following terms:

1. Waiver and Release:
Renter does hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless Owner and assigns from any an all
liability claims, and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, which arise or may
hereafter arise from Renters use of Owners Garden Space and or Property. Renter understands and
acknowledges that this Release discharges Owner from any liability or claim that the Renter may have
against Owner with respect to any bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death or property damage that
may result from Renters use of Garden Space and or Property.

2. Assumption of the Risk
Renter recognizes and understands that Owners Garden Space on the owners Property (11887 South 4000
West Riverton, UT 84096) is a farm environment that may involve inherently dangerous conditions
and/or activities. Renter understands and acknowledges that this Release discharges Owner from injury,
illness, death, or property damage resulting from the use of Owners Garden Space on Owners Property .

3. Insurance:
The Renter understands that insurance for liability, health, and medical or disability coverage in any way
related to the rental of Garden Space or its use on Owners Property under this agreement is the sole
responsibility of Renter.

4. Indemnification:
Renter agrees that he/she will indemnify and hold Owner harmless from any liability resulting from the use
of Owners Garden Space and or Property by Renter, his / hers assigns, heirs, guests, invites or other persons using the Garden Space while in Renter’s possession.

5. Other:
Renter expressly agrees that this Release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by laws of
the State of Utah and that this Release shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of
the State of Utah. Renter agrees that in the event that any clause or provision shall not be in accordance
with the laws of The Sate of Utah

A Petersen Family Farmer will contact you by email after receipt of payment and when the plots are ready to be planted.  At this time you will be assigned your plot number and will receive further instructions. <!--

Payments will only be accepted online through this service, no payments by check or cash will be accepted.
